Life changing: mental health and MS

£0.00

This report surveyed people living with MS on a range of issues relating to everyday life. It highlights the impact of MS symptoms on mental health, and the lack of support services for people with MS who are struggling with mental health issues. This is a follow-up to our 2022 report, Life changing: the MS community in 2022.

In January 2023, we surveyed people living with MS on a range of issues relating to everyday life. We discovered:

  • 56% of our survey respondents reported that MS had affected their mental health moderately or severely
  • 30% of people with MS and a mental health symptom had not discussed their concerns with anyone at all
  • 38% of all survey respondents indicated that they would like to have more support with their mood or emotions

The MS Trust is working with other MS charities to open up the conversation about mental health in MS. We want to make sure that people with MS recognise that MS can impact their mental and emotional health and are empowered to speak up and seek appropriate support.

If you or someone you know are struggling with aspects of life as a result of living with MS do get in touch with the MS Trust helpline on 0800 032 38 39 or ask@mstrust.org.uk
